Gowerton Digested Sludge Cake

There is a need to maintain organic matter levels in the soil if the best is to be achieved from other fertiliser inputs. Recent studies have indicated a loss of some 18% of organic matter from arable soils over the past 10 years. A rich, humic soil will lose less of its essential crop nutrients and moisture. It will also be easier to cultivate, and will be less prone to drought.

Gowerton digested cake has over 35% of its dry solids as organic matter.

Determinand Value Units Addition / Tonne (Wet) Addition / 20t Dressing

Dry Matter 25.2 %
pH 7

Total Nitrogen 4.9 % w/w 12.35 kg 246.96 kg
Total Phosphorous 4.1 % w/w 10.33 kg 206.64 kg
Total Potassium 0.2 % w/w 0.50 kg 10.08 kg

Organic Matter 39.4 % w/w 99.22 kg 1985.76 kg

As can be seen from the table above, there is a substantial compliment of major crop nutrients and organic matter derived from applications of Gowerton Cake.

Normal applications are in the region of 20 tonnes per hectare (8 tonnes per acre) At these rates the soil will receive a total of 196 units per acre of Nitrogen, 370 units of Phosphate and 10 units of Potash.

Note that the table shows PHOSPHORUS as 206 kgs. To convert this to PHOSPHATE, multiply by 2.291. POTASSIUM is converted to POTASH by multiplying by 1.205
